Chikankata Town Council

ABOUT US

The District is governed by a Local Authority (Council), led by a Council Chairperson and including 14 elected councilors and 2 Chiefs, which makes all developmental decisions. The Council uses three standing committees to review matters before final approval. Critically, the district hosts the Kafue Gorge Lower Hydro Power Station, a facility of national economic importance. The Council maintains community links through Ward Development Committees (WDCs), where Ward Councilors serve, ensuring grassroots input into local planning.

WDC structures collaborate with Local Authorities to address developmental issues in their wards, holding meetings to assess challenges and recommend projects to the Council. The council’s administrative wing, led by the Council Secretary, manages the implementation of decisions across four departments: Administration, Works, Planning, and Finance, following a structured budget and guidelines such as a Service Charter and an Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
