Chikankata Town Council is located in Chikankata District of Southern Province, Zambia, approximately 68km from Lusaka the Capital City of Zambia. The district covers an area of 2500km² and shares borders with Kafue district in the North, Chirundu in the East, Siavonga in the South-East, Gwembe and Monze in some parts of the South and, Mazabuka in the West.
The district is serviced by two major trunk roads namely; Lusaka-Chirundu and Lusaka-Livingstone roads. The district has one Constituency, Chikankata, and composed of 14 Wards. The district has two (2) chiefdoms, namely; Naluama under Chief Naluama and Mwenda under Chieftainess Mwenda.
The Population Projection of the district is estimated at 98,933 by the year 2020, with a likely characteristic of 49% (33,777) male and 51% (35,156) female with an annual growth rate of 1.3%. A total of 974 people are urban while 67,959 people are rural, translating into 3% urban and 97% rural. By 2030, the population is expected to reach a total of 75,629 of which 90.1% will remain rural and only 10 % will be in urban. The total household was 11,070 with average household size of 5 persons per household.
