The rehabilitation of the Chikankata–Kasamu road has officially commenced following a groundbreaking ceremony officiated by Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Honorable Charles Milupi.
Chikankata District recently witnessed the groundbreaking of the long-awaited rehabilitation of the Chikankata–Kasamu Road, a development expected to improve transport, trade, and access to essential services for thousands of residents in the district.
During the event, the contractor, CCECC, pledged to prioritize the employment of local people during the project and assured stakeholders of delivery of high-quality works within a 15-month timeframe.
Government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development recently signed road contracts with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), among them, to upgrade the D387 Road (T1 to Chikankata) at a total cost of K369, 386, 682.01.
The rehabilitation of the road is expected to ease transportation challenges, enhance access to markets, health facilities, and learning institutions, and stimulate development in the district.
