Siamikobo Health Post in Chikankata District has recorded a major milestone following the operationalization of its maternity annex, which was funded under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The maternity annex, which had been constructed earlier but remained unused due to lack of equipment and water facilities, has now been fully equipped and connected to a reliable water supply system, enabling expectant mothers to access safe maternal health services within their community.
The operationalization of the maternity annex demonstrates government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare through CDF.
The health facility will help reduce maternal and child health complications that often arose from long distances to referral health facilities.
A nurse at the facility expressed gratitude, saying the facility is now better placed to handle deliveries and provide pre- and post-natal care.
Community members have also welcomed the development, noting that women will no longer have to walk long distances to deliver their babies.
The operationalization of the Siamikobo maternity annex adds to the growing list of CDF-driven projects in Chikankata aimed at improving social services and uplifting the welfare of local communities.
