Expectant mothers in Chikankata’s Nanduba and surrounding areas will soon have improved access to safe delivery services, following the construction of a maternity annex at Nanduba Rural Health Centre.
The project, being undertaken by the Chikankata Town Council, with the financial support of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is aimed at reducing the long distances women travel to access maternal services.
Once equipped and commissioned, the annex will provide space for antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care, ensuring that mothers and infants receive timely medical attention within their community.
The construction of this maternity annex is yet another visible testimony that CDF is making real and positive impact in people’s lives.
The Nanduba Maternity Annex is one of the three maternity annexes under the Constituency Development Fund, with the operational Siamikobo Maternity Annex being the first to have been constructed, and the Chikani maternity annex still under construction.
Community members have also expressed gratitude, describing the annex as a long-awaited intervention that will ease challenges faced by pregnant women, some of whom previously had to walk long distances or wait for transport to reach larger health centres.
The construction of the maternity annexes in the district is part of the wider effort by government to use the Constituency Development Fund to strengthen rural health delivery and improve social services across Chikankata District.
