In an effort to effectively implement the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Communication Strategy and Branding Guidelines, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has convened a two-day training to capacity-build Principal Officers and Public Relations Officers in the Local Authorities.
This is because the Ministry recognizes the critical role strategic communication plays in enhancing service delivery, through public engagement.
The recently launched CDF Communication Strategy is designed to help improve awareness and access to CDF, as well as to foster community participation in the fund and improve transparency and accountability around CDF grants.
The training has been segmented in three regions, with this first one covering Western, Lusaka and Southern Provinces.
Officially opening the training in Choma Monday, 10th March, 2025, Minister of Information and Media, Honorable Cornelius Mweetwa has urged local authorities to work closely with his Ministry, particularly the media, in disseminating information about the Constituency Development Fund.
Honorable Mweetwa says there is no excuse why citizens should not know about CDF, adding that the positive impact of the CDF is very visible.
And Honorable Mweetwa, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, has commended Local Authorities for effectively implementing the Cash for Work Program.
He notes that the impact and visibility of the Cash for Work Program cannot be ignored, stating that the program has not only made towns clean, but has also empowered communities.
Honorable Mweetwa has further noted that because of the Cash for Work Program, citizens did not starve amidst the country’s drought crisis as the program is empowering citizens financially.
